New MRI Technique to Diagnose Alzheimer's

Summary: Researchers have found a new way to diagnose and track Alzheimer's disease. This way uses an MRI technique called arterial spin labeling to measure changes in brain function. It was found that this new method is very promising. It's a better alternative to the current standard, which is a specific PET scan that demands exposure to small amounts of radioactive glucose analog, and also costs four times more than this new method.

Critique: It's great that they found an alternative method to diagnose Alzheimer's. This is going to help a lot of patients and help doctors treat them. It's non-invasive, costs less, doesn't expose patients to radiation, is widely available, and is easily integrated into standard MRI routines.

Impact: This will help lots of patients who may or may not have Alzheimer's.
