Deadly cantaloupes kill 16 in America

Reference: http://rt.com/usa/news/america-cantaloupes-listeria-outbreak-619/

Summary: Who would have thought that eating a fruit could kill you? Traces of listeria bacteria were found in cantaloupe and is was deadly. Listeria is a bacterium that is usuall found in things such as soil, water, raw meat and dairy. There are about 800 cases of listeria sickness in the U.S. per year, but rarely are there any fatalities. The FDA (Food and Drug Administration) asked that all consumers throw out their melons to avoid sickness.

Critique: I don't know that much about listeria, but it seems to me that foods need to have some type of way to make sure that it does not contaminate any of their products. I think the FDA did the right thing because, obviously, we don't need for people dying.

Impact: Maybe this event will cause someone to invent a way to eliminate this bacteria from products. This is something that might be avoidable if there is a way to clean products or give it some type of medicine or something to ensure that this will never happen again. If it does, some people are going to be in trouble.
