Illegal Drug Use is Associated with Abnormal Weight in Teens
Summary:
Researchers conducted a survey of more than 33,000 Italian high school students. The studies revealed that under and overweight teens take in 20 to 40% of more illegal drugs than their peers who are an average weight. The studies also showed that the reason for this is mainly because of their self-esteem. They concluded that the relationship between drug consumption and body weight is not a direct cause-effect relationship but that they are both due to social factors and the student’s dissatisfaction.
Critique:
I think that this article was well written and was a great idea for an experiment. I think it goes to show how important a student’s self-esteem is and how it can affect the choices they make in life.
Impact:
I wish many people could read this especially those who are dealing with obesity and drug addictions. This helps us understand the relationship between social factors, self esteem, obesity, and drug use.
