Heat in Chili Peppers Can Ease Sinus Problems, Research Shows
Summary:
Jonathan Bernstein found that nasal spray that has Capsicum annum (an ingredient from hot chili peppers) can help people clear up some types of sinus inflammation. When researchers tested this they had 44 people with nonallergic rhinitis use the spray for two weeks. They concluded that the spray was safe and effective on nonallergic rhinitis. Non-allergic rhinitis is an upper respiratory condition that is not caused by allergies but instead environmental factors such as weather, household chemicals or perfumes.
Critique & Impact:
I would have never that the hot sensation in hot chili peppers could clear a sinus infection. This just goes to show how many different kinds of ways people make medicine. Who would have thought that something that would make you tear up because of the spice could heal your sickness?
