Bird Brains Follow the Beat

Summary: On February 24, 2012, Science Daily posted an article on how teaching birds how to get rhythm and stay in time with music, that humans’ capacity to move in time with music could be connected to us learning how to speak. Scientist have hypothesized that animals that can mock all kinds of different sounds could be from having a high capacity for knowing and having rhythm. "Motor control of vocal organs is naturally important in vocal learning, once auditory-motor coordination in the vocal control system has been established; a similar auditory-motor transformation system for other body parts might be derived from that." Yoshimasa Seki of the Riken Brain Science Institute in Wako explains. This was proven by scientists doing 46 experiments on seven birds. All seven could keep in time with 460 millisecond intervals but only 1 out of the 7 birds could keep in time with 1500 to 1800 millisecond intervals. Impact: This discovery could lead to great information on behaviors of humans and animals. Learning that staying in rhythm with music is connected to speaking, than maybe we can have a more understanding in how to cure people who can’t talk or people who have a slower learning disability. Critique: Wow, learning this is so fun and cool because I love birds that can talk!!! I hate animals that just sit there and just scream or go to the bathroom and say nothing hahahaha. Were getting closer to finding the meaning of life too (jk)!!! But, Im kinda scared that animals like these birds that can talk and rock will end up ruling us like Planet of the Apes. But I guess, learning about this stuff helps humans better than animals so now the only things I need to worry about is the economy, my broken nail, and crushes. http://www.sciencedaily.com/releases/2012/02/120224152753.htm
