New Therapy Protects Monkeys From Hendra Virus

Summary: Since 1994, scientists have been trying to find a cure for the virus called Hendra. Hendra virus is a fatal zoonotic disease (transmitted from animal to human), that was first found in horses. Commonly, Hendra comes from flying foxes, to horses, to humans. The cure was tested on apes before humans because apes are most like humans and scientists didn't want to risk human lives.

Impact: This is a huge step towards curing fatal diseases. Now we have to test the therapy on humans to see if we can stay away from the Hendra virus.

Critique: I'm glad peoples lives are now being saved.
