The Artic Fox

RESOURCE:http://library.thinkquest.org/3500/arctic_fox.htm

The artic fox is a beautiful animal. It is the fox that lives farthest north, in northern and western Alaska, northern Canada, Russia, and Greenland. Its height ranges from 10-12 inches and weighs between 6-10 pounds. Its coat is grey in the winter so it can blend into the snow and then turns brown in the warmer months. What also makes the artic fox different from any other fox is that it has the warmest coat. Mating season for these furry creatures occurs in March and April. Gestation lasts 52 days and can result in having 7-15 pups! They eat mainly small mammals, like lemmings, tundra voles, and even birds. For an artic fox to survive in such cold conditions, it has short legs, small ears, dense fur, and thickly haired foot pads which help their bodies keep heat in. The artic fox is a beautiful creature that plays a part in the food chain, all animals do. I wonder what would happen if the artic fox became extinct? Maybe there’ll be an overpopulation of birds.
