Survey identifies sea turtle 'hitchhikers'
Resource: http://www.biologynews.net/archives/2011/11/08/survey_identifies_sea_turtle_hitchhikers.html
Summary: Scientist have figured out that sea turtles are actually ecosystems for some animals that live on their shells and skin. So the scientist were doing research on turtles in the Pacific Ocean and they found that the animals that latch onto the sea turtles are epibionts. These epibionts are not very good though, they tend to carry diseases and put weight on the turtle when it is swimming also some barnicles can embed into the turtles skin and literally pierce them. The scientists have also looked at sea turtles in the Atlantic Ocean and those turtles have a lot more epibionts on them then the ones in the Pacific Ocean. This research all came to these people because the sea turtles were on the endangered species list. They found out that the problem for that was because of the epibionts, so they are trying to find a way to collect the epibionts to get them to stay away from the sea turtles so they dont extinct.
Critique: There is nothing wrong with this article, it is very good and i hope that they can find a way to fix the problems with the turtles.
Impact: If the scientist could figure out how to get the epibionts away from the sea turtles then it would make a huge impact on how many more sea turtles we will have and they will no longer be on the endangered species list.
