Childhood Sex Abuse Tied to Heart Risk
Summary:
Women who have report having had been forced into sex at a young age have a higher risk of suffering from heart disease. Researchers looked data from more than 67,000 women who from the ages 25 to 42. It showed that 11% answered that they had “forced sexual activity” during childhood before the age 17. When scientists looked at the data it showed that women who were forced into sexual contact they had 56% greater risk in cardiovascular disease than women with no childhood sex abuse. The largest factor to the heart disease risk is the tendency to become overweight. They also had higher rates of smoking, drinking, high blood pressure, and diabetes than women not abused in youth.
Critique & Impact:
I think that this is a very important subject. I think first of abuse is not okay and it leaves a long term effect on women especially. Now not only does it have an emotional toll on women but it leaves a higher risk on physical health because of the emotional defects. It shows how important it is for women who are abused to make sure they see a counselor or someone who can help them keep their emotions stable so they don’t turn to other things like smoking, drinking, excessive eating, ect.
