Image Recognition Software Can Help Cops ID Gang Graffiti Automatically
Summary:
For police, being able to track gangs it is important for them to frequently decipher graffiti, decode message, looking at bubbly letters, and spray-painted scrawls. There is new software that can help speed up the process by checking graffiti against a library of street art automatically. The system works by looking through existing images, it finds a list of similar images based on the visuals and similarities, and then returns the gang names associated with those similar images. The system will look for visuals from a new image, and then letters, numbers, symbols ect. Then the system finds other images that share similarities with the new image.
Critique & Impact:
This is a great advantage to our police. Finding gangs is not easy but with the new technology they can use it to help find them through their “art.” This system will save us a great amount time and it will only advance as time goes on.
