World’s Lightest Substance
Summary: This new metal is 99.9 percent air. I’m not kidding, folks; only 0.01% is actual metal. This metal is obviously man-made and according to the scientists who made it, it’s 100 times lighter than Styrofoam®.
Critique: What I wonder about is how the scientists handle it, or what they'll use it for. They’re not going to give it to a guy with anger-management issues, obviously, but really. It can sit atop dandelion fluff (see picture) without disturbing even one seed, how do you hold it or pick it up? These are the questions that haunt me.
Impact: This is just a cool thing to learn about. I mean, people will probably never use this metal, but it’s a good idea for holding together other fragile substances like glass.
