Olive Oil: The Star of Healthy Cuisine

Reference: http://www.cbn.com/health/weightloss/oliveoil_Galland.aspx

Summary: Olive oil is one of the most treasured gifts ever found.  Studies show that olive oil has nutritional value in it that can help with people’s health problems.  It can help diseases such as; arthritis, cancer, high cholesterol, and cardiovascular disease.  There is also extra-virgin olive oil.  We use extra-virgin olive oil a lot in our recipes.  Oleocanthal is found in extra-virgin olive oil, which is a natural inflammation-fighting compound.  Here is some information about olive oil: it protects your blood vessels, it helps prevent metabolic syndrome, it helps decrease cardiovascular disease, and a lower chance to have cancer.  Only two teaspoons a day can help protect against inflammation.  This actually easy to achieve because you can use it to coat you pans when you cook eggs, chicken, etc rather than using cooking spray or butter.  It can also be used to make salad dressing.  It is an easy inexpensive way to help keep you healthier.

Critique: This article is very interesting.  Knowing that a couple of teaspoons a day can help your body maintain health is encouraging.  What would it possibly hurt to use this instead of other forms of oil or butter?  It doesn’t really take any time away.  Besides the fact that it cost a little more money than other oils, it is probably worth it in order to help stay healthy.

Impact: Olive oil is not only a good resource to make foods with, but is a natural resource for us to help with different body problems.  Olive oil has many benefits that I think people should consider.
