Guide To Sprains And Strains

Reference: http://www.cbn.com/health/Belson_sprain-strain.aspx

Summary: A sprain can tear or stretch one or more ligaments in your body.  Young children usually don’t get sprains because there muscles are stronger and more flexible.  The part of your body that gets sprained easily is the ankle.  A lot of sprains are usually from young athletes.  A sprain is when your ankle twists or you fall on it.  Here are some signs that will let you know that you have a sprain: you will have pain, swelling around the joint, bruising around the ankle, you may hear a pop in your joint, and probably not be able to use your joint or walk or put pressure on the injured area.  Now a strain is a muscle or tendon that is stretched or torn.  It usually happens in the back or the hamstring.  The signs of strains are: swelling, pain, muscle weakness, muscle spasm, and trouble moving the muscle.  Treatments for strains and sprains are exactly the same.  All you need to know is the word rice.  R stands for rest at all times.  I stands for ice your injured body for about fifteen to twenty minutes and do it several times through out the day.  C represents to compress your swelling.  And E stands elevate your body when ever sitting or lying down.  And also suggested, you can use ibuprofen for the swelling.

Critique: I’ve had sprains before but not a strain.  It doesn’t feel good for the first couple of days. Because I never had a strain before, I can’t really tell you what it feels like.  Another thing about sprains is that they can get better in about a week in a half or so.

Impact: The fact is either of sprains and strains hurt really bad.  When you get an injury like this it can heal pretty fast, but you must take care of it rightly, if you don’t it won’t heal for a while.
