Horses Suffer From Obesity Just Like Humans

Summary:
Horse owners often think that keeping their horses heavier is better than seeing them skinnier but in reality it’s the complete opposite. Just like humans, obesity leads to severe medical conditions that can be fatal. Your horse should be exercised on a daily basis and not just a good 20 minute lunge, we have to push them, just like we push ourselves.

Critique:
Obesity on horses leads to many medical problems. Just not weight gain but also endocrine problems, like insulin resistance. Like humans, horse weight gain can lead to heart problems and diabetes. Obesity in horses can cause laminitis, a seriously painful condition mostly on the front hooves. This happens when the bone is suspended in the hoof. Vets have yet to find a medicine or procedure to cure them.

Impact:
This frustrates me greatly because with all the horse rescue I do, I get to see how stupid some people really can be. Just like us, you have to watch your weight and exercise on a daily basis, this goes for your horse. If you do not watch your horse’s health, you’re basically sending them to the grave.
