Hold The Salt

Reference: http://thechart.blogs.cnn.com/2012/02/07/hold-the-salt/?hpt=he_c2

Summary: According to a new study by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, nine out of ten adult Americans are eating too much salt each day. It's not coming from salt they add to their foods. The CDC found that 40% of the sodium people consumed comes from the following ten foods: breads/rolls, deli lunch meats, pizza, poultry, soups, cheeseburgers/other sandwiches, cheese, pasta mixed dishes, meat mixed dishes, and snack foods such as chips. Some of those foods aren't high in sodium, but when people eat multiple servings of them it raises their salt levels. Average people are supposed to eat no more than 2,300 milligrams of salt per day, and those with diabetes and other health conditions are encouraged to have no more than 1,500 milligrams each day. Adults eat more than 3,300 milligrams of salt each day on average.

Critique: Salt is really tricky. You need to be eating enough to fuel your body, but if you eat too much it's really bad for you. I think if people just ate the serving size then their salt intake would decrease, they just need to put more attention into what they're eating.

Impact: Hopefully this will encourage more people to eat less salt.
