Summary- A new study shows that breathing the aroma of lavender oil can reduce the pain and stress caused by inserting needles into the skin. Before the use of lavender oil, all subjects showed similar pain when needles were inserted into their skin. But the group of subjects that breathed lavender before the second half of the experiment showed a decreased bispectral index values and a decrease in pain from insertion of needles. Bispectral index values assesses depth of anaethesia susing sophisticated monoriting chnology. The researchers concluded that lavender oil significantly aided patients with pain.
Critique- I've heard people say that lavender is considered a relaxer. But I didn't know that it could work to this extent. I wonder if the people that get accupuncture will request lavender oil to breathe.
Impact- Well now we know what will ease pain, and stress with out taking a pill. This will be good for companies that sell aroma thingys. But this could also impact lavender farmers.
