Summary- As cells age, they eventually stop dividing. Cell senescence happends throughtout life, but a person's ability to clear such cells from their body decreases with age, leading to a buildup. What this study shows is that scientists may be able to put off some age-related diseases that delay or even prevent such changes as cataracts and the fat loss that leads to wrinkles by clearing out "senescent" cells from mice. Researchers found that by using a drug to target and kill senescent cells, they would be able to essentailly freeze some aspects of the aging process when
they started the treatment.
Critique- This is interesting yet hard to believe. Being able to freeze the aging process does nto sound even remotely healthy.
Impact- If this treatment turns out to be affective, then the companies that make wrinkle creams and stuff along those lines may get a run for their money. I wonder if it the less potent version of Botox. I wouldn't want to be the person that they test this on. But if this treatment works, then they may just be able to convince some ladies to spend a lot of money on it.
