Summary- The FDA tested samples of pet food for salmonella that a pet owner could be exposed to after touching the pet food. People becoming sick because of pet food has prompted the national investigation. Canned dog food is not suspected to contain the bacteria. Samlmonella can be transferred to the owners by them touching the pet food then unintentionally touching their mouthes. The symptoms of salmonella usually start to kick in 12 to 72 hours after contamination, the illness can last from four to seven days.
Critique- My question is, does salmonella effect dogs or the pets eating this food that may or may not be contaminated. Will the FDA test all brands of pet food or just the major ones like Purina?
Impact- A lot of people have pets, so they better be accurate with their findings. Having a health scare because you touched your pets food sounds ridiculous but I can believe it. How did the salmonella get in the food in the first place, if the food contains it? This could affect all pet owners and what they decide to feed their pets.
