Tireless Research Reveals Secrets of the 'Sleep Hormone'

Reference- www.biologynews.net

Summary- The researcher at McGill University have made major breakthrough by uncovering the inner workings of melatonin, also known as the 'sleep hormone'. Scientists in Italy were also in on this study. The study revealed the key role played by the melatonin receptor in the brain that promotes deep, restorative sleep. This finding led the scientists to create a novel drug called UCM765, which selectively activates this receptor. The results mean that their may be a promising and new treatment for insomnia, a common public health problem that affects millions of people worldwide.

Critique- This seems to be a very interesting topic. So basically if you can't sleep you should blame the sleep receptor thing. But for them to have developed a medicine, well drug, to help insomnia is quite remarkable.

Impact- This impacts the medical and science world tremendously. This breakthrough also impacts the millions of people that are affected by insomnia. Maybe they will soon be able to sleep, or at least somewhat.
