Drugs Help Monkeys Lose Weight, Are Humans Next?

Reference:  http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/45224080/ns/health-diet_and_nutrition/

Summary: Drugs that help people lose weight for a dieter is like a dream for them.  Right now scientists only know that it works on monkeys but they are going to test it on a humans soon to see if it actually works.  The drug that scientists are using is a protein called adipotide.  What it does is that it goes into the blood supply and kills the fat cells.  The research shows that the monkeys lost 11 percent of their body fat.

Critique: This is very interesting because if this drug proves itself to be useful for humans then won’t a lot of people just stop working out and use the drug whenever they need to lose weight?  In my personal perspective I think that working out to lose weight is a lot better than taking the drug because not only would people get lazy but they would not build muscle.  I just don’t think that needs to be our first resort to losing weight.  Exercise and eating healthy still has a lot to do with it.

Impact: It is really hard to say what is better until we find out if this drug works on any humans.  Some people may agree about doing the drug and some people may want to just work out like usual.  It is very important to do research before taking anything for weight loss as it could end up being bad for you body.
