The Sun Concern You Don't Know About

Reference- www.myfoxphoenix.com

Summary- Primarily in the Arizona we know about heat stroke, heat exhaustion. But what about a condition that could negatively impact the vision of a person? The ultraviolet rays of the sun can't just do serious damage to the skin, but to your eyes too. It's called pterygium, it looks like a small red spot or red wedge or a triangular piece of tissue usually on the inner corner of the white if the eye. if left unchecked, pterygia can grow across the entire surface of the eye causing serious vision problems. They say not to leave the house without sunglasses on. The only way to get rid of the pterygia and that's to cut it away. After the benign mass is cut away, it has to be repaired by transplanting tissue from under the eyelid. There's one more thing about this procedure, your awake the whole time. For many with this condition it might be too late, as extensive sxposure to the sun during childhood can result in pterygium growth later in life.

Critique- I wonder why this was just recently announced the world especially the people that live here in Arizona. This may effect a lot of people later in life because you never really think of what the sun does to your eyes when your outside for an excessive amount of time. I definitely am going to think about my eyes when i go outside now. The procedure for this condition sounds very painful to go through. I will be more cautious when I'm outside.

Impact- This condition could possibly effect a lot of people that live in states that are sunny all the time. I guess this means that people will start buying sunglasses, which will make the people that produce the sunglasses very rich.
