Influenza Meets Its Match!

The flu. Everyone hates the flu. It is also known as the Influenza, which, according to scientists throughout the years, is a virus. This makes it absolutely, positively, indefinitely incurable, right?
Wrong.
This year (2011) scientists found a human universal antibody that could lead to a break-through on a cure for the pesky sickness.
Every few years, it is recommended to receive a shot for the flu. This does not make it impossible for the flu to enter your body – that would make it a cure and we wouldn’t have a problem. According to some biologists, however, it is a hit-or-miss situation, meaning it will help you . . . . sometimes. This isn’t exactly reassuring news, so the poor biologists have been stressing over how to make it accurate more often than not for quite some time. Right now though, the shot basically helps your body develop a resistance – like a wall – so it will make it harder for the virus to enter your system.
Influenza is a respiratory problem, which means that even though the stereotypical miserable trait is vomiting and nausea, it actually affects the lungs, windpipes, and nostrils, assuming you’ve got it bad. The flu is often mistaken for the common cold, but the flu is generally more severe and is an all-together different virus than the common cold. Also, a cold stands alone where Influenza branches off into several different types, such as Pandemic Influenza, Influenza A, B and C, etc.
After watching a video at http://drsamgirgis.com/2011/07/29/discovery-of-broadly-neutralizing-influenza-antibody-may-pave-way-for-single-universal-flu-vaccine/#axzz1VdHcttXD , I listened to a bunch of mumbo-jumbo on how the flu is scientifically caused. We’ll see how well I can break it down. Firstly, when the virus enters the body, it heads toward cells that border the respiratory tract and enters one of the cell’s ‘sections’. Because of PH changes, the HA proteins – whose duty it is to make sure the Viral membrane is not disrupted – part, making the Viral RNA susceptible to escaping and causing trouble. After it enters the cell nucleus, the RNA copies itself, and the new copies are joined with new copies of the Influenza, which had busied itself by replicating as well. The RNA provides the virus with the necessary chemicals it needs to attack your body.
This is where Doctor Antibody comes in, here to save the day. What this guy does, is when you receive the vaccination, it makes a beeline for the Influenza and attaches itself to the virus. This prevents the proteins from parting despite the PH balance and letting through the Viral RNA. So, overall, it stops the virus from doing much of anything until your body can get rid of the pest who’s pestering anyone it can.
Though this antibody is deemed “universal”, there are some doubts among scientists as to whether or not it is useful. But, for the most part, we’ve stopped Mr. Virus from making a fool out of us. We shall see where it heads toward in the foreseeable future.
