Bird Flu could be Returning

Summery:  Is the bird flu returning?  The U.N. is warning the world that the deadly influenza virus is coming back.  They say that wild birds are migrating and spreading the virus in countries that have been virus free.  Some of those places are Israel, the Palestinian territories, Bulgaria, Romania, Nepal and Mongolia.  When that happened, it brought H5N1 to the countries.  On August 14, a six year old Cambodian girl died by this influenza virus.  When the first bird flu started, there were over 331 human deaths of this bird flu around the world.  That was detected in 2003.  In most of the sixty-three countries, the virus was eliminated in 2006.  But it still remains in Bangladesh, China, Egypt, India, Indonesia and Vietnam.  In 2008, the bird population shrank from 4,000 to 302.  Influenza infects a lot of birds like ducks, chicken, gulls, and turkey.  People that live in an environment where there are lots of birds have a higher chance of getting the virus.  If a human gets this disease, they can get eye infections and even severe respiratory problems.

Critique:  This article is very interesting.  If the virus came back to this country, I would be scared.  This article is telling us that there is a virus that can harm people.  What would happen if this country had an outbreak of this virus?  I think our country would have a big problem trying to control the spread of the virus and the panic of the population.

Impact:  This article is telling us that we need to be on the lookout for a new outbreak of this virus in the U.S.  Hopefully scientists will have a cure to save people from getting really sick and to prevent the spread of the virus.
