Summary: The title says all basically. These new rocks are called "faux-amphibolites", and were found in Nortern Quebec. Before these rocks were found, the oldest dated rocks were from Acasta Gneiss in the Northwest Territories, wherever the heck that is, which are 4.03 billion years old.
Critique: This was interesting to learn about. Especially since I was one of those kids back in seventh grade that fell asleep during the covering of Rocks. Naturally, I got what I deserved, which meant a C on my test, and I haven’t looked into being a geologist since. I mean, if I see a pretty rock, I’m going to pick it up, but I have never asked myself, ‘hmm, I wonder if this is an igneous or a volcanic rock?
Impact: Well apparently, finding this rock is a big deal to geologists. It may have been part of the Earth’s first crust.
