animal species at risk of extinction

Summary-We all know that there's many endangered species in the world, but many of these endangered species in US have not made it onto the official Endangered Species Act (ESA) list. According to statistics, approx. 40% of birds, 50% of mammals & 80-95% of other species (such as amphibians, crustaceans & insects) were not recognized by the ESA as "threatened". Approx. 531 American species have not made it onto the ESA protection list.
Impact- Well if we don't watch out for our endangered species, these animals will be extinct before we know it. This could impact our food chain. If some animals' diet consisted of insects, & they become extinct, then we may also end up losing even more species.
Critique- This is sad. We need to start protecting our endangered species.
