For Midwesterners, More Boxcars Mean Cleaner Air
Reference- http://www.sciencedaily.com/releases/2011/12/111208173716.htm
Summary- Much of impact that boils down to simple efficiency. Shifting from road to rail 500 million tons of the freight passing through or to the Midwest would make a large dent in the carbon dioxide spilled into the air by the movement of goods. There is a 31 percent decrease of carbon dioxide produced by freight shipping region. But carbon dioxide mixes fairly evenly in the atmosphere. Spreading its effects around the globe. The result is a much more thorough and local idea of the differences between truck and rail shipping. But more rail track would mean more pollutants near the tracks.
Critique- The only thing is that if more rail track would come which would mean more pollutants near the tracks. With the carbon dioxide decreasing by 31 percent chance produced by freight shipping would change.
Impact- There would be a big change if they would switch from truck to railing for shipping things. The change would be the carbon dioxide.
