petroleum-eating mushrooms

reference:

summery:
"take a Petri dish containing crude petroleum and it will release a strong odor distinctive of the toxins that make up the fossil fuel. sprinkle spores over the Petri dish and let it sit for two weeks in a incubator, and surprise, the petroleum and its smell will disappear. a group of scientists in Canada are trying to find the best combination of microbes plants and fungi to decontaminate areas. to accomplish this they will plant willow cuttings at 25 centimeter intervals in the spring so that the roots go down and soak up the contaminants along with the microbes, at the end of the season we burn the stems and leaflets and the contaminates are trapped in the ashes.

critique:
i think this is interesting because in the future it will be very helpful to the enviroment.

impact:
it will help clean areas contaminated by human activity.
