Summary- The Wildlife Conservation Society announced today that they released a Southern River terrapin, this turtle is the most endangered on earth. They released it to the Sre Ambel River in Cambodia. The turtle was released January 16th, 2012. The ceremony of the releasing was attended by many people (officials, conservationists, and the public). The female turtle weights 75 pounds. The turtle has a satellite transmitter that allows the people who released her to track where she is at all times. The turtle was captured in the Sre Ambel River by fishermen in April 2011. She is one of the 200 adult turtles of this species who is still remaining. The fishermen took her to the wildlife conservation instead of being sent to food markets in China.
Impact- This impacts the species of this turtle because instead of being sent to the food markets, they saved her so maybe she can reproduce and make more of this dying species.
Critique- I think this is cool. Maybe we'll have a chance of saving this species instead of the Chinese eating them. YAY!
