Butterflies and Birds aren't able to keep up with Climate Change
Reference- http://www.sciencedaily.com/releases/2012/01/120118111742.htm
Summary- Since 1992, butterflies are 135 kilometers behind the changing climate zones, and birds are 212 kilometers behind. This study conducted by European researchers proved that the northward shift of their environment, due to global warming, has these populations of species not knowing where to go. This may be because of the expansive use of European land causing difficulty to find areas for the animals.
Critique- I think that it's insane how this was all calculated in over 1.5 million hours by just thousands of volunteers!! Now we need to find out how to save the birds and butterflies so their populations don't drop due to global warming's effects on their habitats.
Impact- On a continental scale, 'climatic debt' is being acquired by whole groups of animals. Long-term effects of this study remains unknown, but we do know that the interdependence between these species may never be the same.
