Twin Births in the U.S., Like Never Before

Reference: http://www.nytimes.com/2012/01/24/health/research/twin-births-in-the-us-like-never-before.html?_r=1&ref=health

Summary: The National Canter for Health Statistics did research on twin births in the United States and there were several conclusions. Today, about 1 out of every 3o babies born is a twin. The rate of twin births had raised 76 percent from 1980 to 2009. It is predicted that the increase in twin births is caused by the growing use of fertility drugs and technology advancements in assisting fertility. These treatments increase the chance of the birth of multiples.

Critique: These results surprised me a little bit. I knew that the rate of twin births had grown significantly, but I didn't realize that it was about 1 in 30 babies. That's crazy!

Impact: This really doesn't have any impact on me, but it does impact the jobs of labor and delivery doctors. Also, it might make women aware of what they are signing up for when using certain drugs.
