In New Zealand on Wednesday there were 33 whales that were separated from
their pod of 99, and were washed up on the beach. After a group of volunteers brought
them back to sea, they again were washed up on the beach. This time however the whales
were not able to be saved and had to be put down to put them out of their misery. The
beach were these whales were beached is the Farewell Spit in Golden Bay. Experts say
that this beach in particular is responsible for many whale deaths since it is shallow and
confuses whales and gets them stuck.
Impact: the impact this article has is that because of these beaches whales are
dying. An easy solution is putting up barriers around the beach that wont effect other
wildlife but will keep the whales where they are supposed to be, instead of letting then
get trapped and die.
