Killer T-Cells Linked to Diabetes

Killer T-Cells in the human body protect us from viruses and diseases, however, it has been found possible that the Killer T-Cells inadvertently destroy insulin that is produced in the pancreas. If a person lacks in insulin they get what is known as Diabetes. If the Killer T-Cells destroy too much insulin you can get Type 1 Diabetes. Type 1 Diabetes is a lifelong disease in which you have high levels of blood sugar, it can occur at any age but mainly in young adults and adolescents. "Type 1 diabetes is a result of the body's own immune system attacking and destroying the cells in the pancreas that manufacture the hormone insulin. Insulin controls blood sugar levels and a lack of insulin is fatal if untreated," said Professor Sewell.

Impact: We may find a cure to Diabetes Type 1.

Critique: I found this article interesting because my step dad has Diabetes Type 2.
