Exercise in a pill helps stop heat related deaths

Reference: http://www.biologynews.net/archives/2012/01/08/exercise_in_a_pill_may_protect_against_extreme_heat_sensitivity.html

Summary: Researchers at Baylor College of Medicine have indentified a molecule that could help people that have sensitivity against the heat. The research was led by Dr. Susan Hamilton who is head of molecular physiology and biophysics at BCM ,she studies the ryanodine receptor 1(RyR1) that is invloved directly in a particularly deadly disorder called malignant hyperthermia. People that have this disorder suffer life-threatening elevations in temperature during a certain kind of general anesthesia. When mice with this disorder do a routine workout in a hot room or are even shortly exposed to the heat of a hot summers day they die. "When we gave AICAR to the (heat-sensitive) mice, it was 100 percent effective in preventing heat-induced deaths, even when we gave it no more than 10 minutes before the activity," said Hamilton.

Critique: I really like this article because it could help change the future for people that have maligant hyperthermia.

Impact: This will change the future alot!
