Is a new Element a possibility?

Summary- Chemistry officials have confirmed the creation of two new elements. So now names will be given to elements 114 and 116.They are not officially on the periodic table. They create these elements by taking a heavy element such as uranium. But in this case plutonium (94) and calcium (20) and accelerating the ion of calcium and intense speed letting it smash into the plutonium. Rarely these atoms fuse creating element 114. When you smash one of these at a target and let decay the element will change to different elements and you also will be able to measure the gamma rays that where detected. So in the near future there will be new periodic tables with elements 114 and 116.



Critique- I think that this experiment is a sign that we made great distance when it comes to science. If we can make elements we can a very vast list or table of elements in the next 50 years. Instead of the periodic table going only up 118 it will go up to 200 in 50 years from now.


Impact- The impact is if they did more studies on this to master this technique then there would be more elements to work with while doing chemistry. But if there are more elements then that means the harder science will be.
