The world has come a long way since America first set foot on the moon nearly forty years ago. Now today we are trying to send astronauts all the way to Mars, and even trying to answer the question as to if the planet is capable of sustaining life. NASA developed a radar sounding technology to detect all the buried water on Mars. Now researcher and scientist Essam Heggy and a team he led thought the same system could be used on Earth’s desert regions. They traveled to northern Kuwait and used this system to map the depth and number of fresh water areas throughout that area of the country. For two weeks they flew in a helicopter with the system attached and scanned the area. Their results found that the system could actually find fresh water sources, the depth and amount of water in the area, and where the water flowed in and out. They think this will help to drill water more efficiently, be able to map the Earth by a satellite, and even increase our Earth’s water supply. I wonder what the future has in store for us.
