Summary: An U.S study shows that kids living in smoke free homes got to school more than kids living in smoking homes. Massachusetts general hospital conducted a yearly in-person survey for U.S households. This study shows that age 6-11 living with tobacco smoke in the home missed 1.06 days more than those in non smoking homes. One quarter to one third of these missed days were due to second hand smoke systems as ear infections and chest colds. One third of children age 3-11 live with at least one smoker in the home and half of those kids have been found with detectable levels of blood marker from being exposed to tobacco.

Critique: I think this study was very well needed in this society so many moms and dads are smoking today and so many kids are being affected by it. In my mind I don’t understand why everyone doesn’t want to quit. If they do want to quit but are so addicted they can’t this is there incentive. Don’t do it for your own health or to save money but do it for your kids. Many kids out there will be punished for something they didn’t do more than 600,000 people are killed from secondhand smoke in a year 40% of that 600,000 are children.

Impact: This is a major problem in the world today. This has a huge impact on the kids the adults and even the schools. These students are being stopped from getting the education they deserve all because of their parents. I hope this parents can see after this study how outstandingly selfish there are being taking something from there children that they rightfully deserve.
