Summary-Scientist have suggested that our body odor is a factor in attraction and women can have physical and emotional reactions to the presence of their partner's body smell. If the only body odor you have makes people gag, not to worry. Researchers found that 11% of the population suffers from trimethylaminuria, a condition marked by chronic malodor, it has nothing to do with hygiene. A team of researchers from the Monell Chemical Senses Center in Philadelphia authored the study. The researchers tested just over 350 people that sought help to deal with their odor. They found that, up to one third of these individuals had a rare genetic disease dubbed trimenthylaminuria, also known as TMAU. TMAU is a condition in which their bodies don't metabolize an enzyme found in some foods properly, and this causes them to give off an unpleasant fishy smell from their breath, sweat, urine, and saliva.
Critique- This is a sort of interesting article. I didn't know that there is a disease that caused some people to smell fishy and unpleasant. I wonder if its more men than women that have this disease.
Impact- Now that they found out why some people smell the way that they do, maybe they can find a cure or something to reverse it. This may help part of the population that don't have a reason for their odor, maybe this is what their reason is.
