Popcorn is Discovered in Peru
Summary: Basically what the title says is what happened. Corncobs, from 6,700 to 3,000 years ago were found in Peru on January 18 this year. It was burned, from what I can see from the picture, so, naturally, people would assume that it is in fact popcorn! Woo! They also ground it up and used it as corn flour. (Here’s a fun fact that I learned a few years back: many people had bad digestion because of accidentally ingesting rocks in their bread. They were in the bread because little pieces of the rock were ground in with the flour.)
Impact: Corn first came to us nearly 9,000 years ago. Despite this, people don’t really need corn in their diet. It was easy to grow though, and was good for trading. We actually learned the secret of how to grow it better from the Indians on Thanksgiving.
Critique. I like popcorn. I really do, but you know what? It took me a minute to figure out how they made popcorn without a microwave. It was such a foreign concept that it surprised me and gave me a heart attack! Just kidding. But really, to make popcorn, you would almost have to burn it. Like, on a fire. Am I the only one who thinks that’s so weird?
