The author, poet, and literary critic, Edgar Allen Poe was born January 19, 1809 – October 7, 1849. His father left his family at a young age soon after his mother died. He was never formally adopted and grew up poor. He worked on literary journals and became his own kind of literary criticism. His work forced him to move to several cities, then he married his 13 year old cousin. Kind of gross but it was normal during those times.

In 1845, he published "The Raven", his dark work changed the way most people think and question the mind. Most said his writing was great because of mental disease and his drinking problems. In the negative of him came the positive of his writing. He was best at "slow motion", it made the story more dramatic. Poe gave scatted details. Meaning he explained many details on one subject and left our imagination fill out the rest in others. This creates a lot more tone and setting. His work made us question the true darkness of the mind.
